The University awarded a contract for carbon fiber spinal surgery implants.
This exemption is for carbon fiber spinal surgery implants. These non-metal, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer implants also enable better visualization of soft tissue, provide structural integrity, and are designed for durability, allowing for early detection of potential tumor recurrence or complications during follow-up care.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These implants are for patient care.
