The University awarded a contract for mold inspection and remediation services.
Green Home Solutions will provide professional mold inspection and remediation services for residential units participating in the HUD-funded research project titled Advancing Urban Resilience: The MoldMap Development for Predictive Risk Assessment. Services include environmental inspection, air and surface sampling, data reporting, and mold remediation activities in approximately 100 housing units located in Southwest Chicago communities. The vendor will also provide workforce training for local residents in mold inspection and remediation practices to support community engagement and capacity building. These services directly support federally sponsored research and community health intervention activities conducted under the HUD Healthy Homes initiative.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Failure to approve this exemption would delay critical mold inspection and remediation activities required under the federally funded research project. This would jeopardize compliance with the HUD grant scope, delay community health interventions in Southwest Chicago neighborhoods, and risk disruption of research activities tied to federally funded objectives and timelines.
