The University awarded a contract for a service contract.
This exemption is for a service contract for the MoFlo Astrios and the CytoFlex 4 Lasers in the Flow Cytometry Core. The instruments that are under service contract are essential instruments for critical research being conducted at UIC. These instruments are widely used by several PIs, post-doctoral students and graduated and undergraduate students in the UIC campus.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Critical research at UIC that will be affected that can have a downstream effect on publications and funding by National agencies such as the NIH, NSF and DRDO whose funded grants these instruments support.
