The University awarded a contract for an airway management platform.
Karl Storz Airway Management Platform, consisting of flexible intubation scopes and video laryngoscopes.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The KARL STORZ video laryngoscope platform provides clinicians a device for intubating all patients including those with potential anatomical challenges. This is used for more difficult airway management support in the OR - intubations. It is the current equipment used in the hospital OR. Clinicians prefer the same equipment as a hospital standard for compatibility and ease of use.
