Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

10x Genomics single cell capturing bar-coding system. This research tool will be of high value to the Department of Physiology & Biophysics research enterprise, including generating of high resolution single cell transcriptomics data and new hypothesis for new and pending grant proposals and manuscript submission. It will be utilized immediately upon arrival.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This research equipment is unique to the research community at the Department of Physiology & Biophysics and as a whole to UIC. Although there are similar systems on campus, they belong to individual labs or departments, which means that their availability is much more limited. Since freshly isolated cells are required for the processing, proximity and availability of the equipment will be critical factors determining the outcome of an experiment. Increasing the availability of this system throughout the campus will facilitate more users utilizing this state-of-the-art technology to generate more groundbreaking new data due to its proximity to the users. We expect to have more users requesting assess to this system for their research needs.
