The University awarded a contract for S5 Heart Lung Machine.
The S5 Heart Lung Machine is needed for the open heart program. The heart lung machine temporarily takes over the functions of the heart and lungs during open heart surgery, maintaining the circulation of blood and the oxygen content of the patient's body.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The S5 heart lung machine is required equipment for open heart surgeries performed at the University of Illinois Hospital.
