The University awarded a contract for Implants.
The implants provided by Asahi Intecc are guidewires, microcatheters, wires and ancillaries that are used in the treatment of neurological aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations. The Asahi Intecc USA Neurovascular guidewire is a medical device used to carry stents, catheters and balloons to cure intracranial blood vessel diseases such as cerebral arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms. These guidewires are placed inside catheters for optimal visibility and navigability.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Asahi Intecc USA Inc. implants have to do with direct patient care. Without access to their guidewires, microcatheters, wires and ancillaries the hospital would not be able to offer certain neurovascular procedures, which in tern would drive patients elsewhere and a loss in revenue to the hospital.
