The University awarded a contract for cadavers.
UIC receives premium cadavers from the Anatomical Gift Association that are prepared to our specifications. We require donors that are disease free, embalmed, un-embalmed, partial, or whole, with and without brains and teeth. The UIC Gross Anatomy lab is one of the largest in the U.S. and our special relationship with AGA guarantees that we have a large supply of cadavers at the best rates available in the Chicago area. AGA has the quantity, quality, and delivery capabilities that keeps our programs running safely and smoothly.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) These human cadavers and brains will be used by students in anatomy and cell biology to provide quality medical education to the future physicians of Illinois.
