The University awarded a contract for registered dietitians.
Registered dietitians in the hospital are primarily responsible for assessing the nutritional status of patients and making recommendations to improve their nutritional status. This includes assessing adequacy of tube feedings and IV Nutrition orders placed by doctors. They are a vital part of the health care team as they identify degrees of malnutrition as well as ways to prevent malnutrition. A registered dietitian is a nutritionists who design nutrition programs to protect health, prevent allergic reactions and alleviate the symptoms of many types of disease (Food allergies, such gluten or nut). In addition, they help maintain the caloric intake to meet suggested dietary restrictions per the physician orders. These services are supported by a team of registered dietitians which needs to be augmented with agency dietitians during times of medical leave and employee turnover. These are the times that we would rely on Roche Dietitians, LLC to provide temporary staffing.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Roche Dietitians will provide direct patient care. Without access to their nutritional program guidance the hospital would not be able to give proper patient care when it comes to preventing allergic reactions and alleviate the symptoms of many types of disease from certan foods (Food allergies, such gluten and nut), which in turn would drive patients elsewhere and a loss in revenue to the hospital.
