The University awarded a contract for the UltraPulse DUO.
The UltraPulse DUO is a CO2 laser system. The laser is designed to deliver CO2 laser energy via an articulated arm or through a CO2 laser fiber. This will allow surgical precision and access to hard to reach anatomies.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The UltraPulse DUO laser will be replacing a previous version of a Lumenis laser Ultra Pulse Encore laser that is 13 years old. Laser technology should be reviewed/replaced every 7-10 years. Purchasing a new laser will allow the hospital to cease the rental of a laser system that is needed for specific ENT CO2 cases, thus eliminating rental fees. The laser is upgradeable providing the hospital the capability to add accessories for other specialties if needed, including Neurosurgery, ENT, Podiatry, Gynecology Urology, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery an ENT Facial Plastics.
