The University awarded a contract for a BK3000 Ultrasound System.
The BK3000 Ultrasound System will be used for prostate biopsies to diagnose cancer and other urological conditions at the UI Health Urology Clinic.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The Urology Department is expanding. A new clinic with 2 treatment rooms was designed to meet the growing demand for Urology services. The BK ultrasound system will provide the surgeons the tools they need to diagnose and treat a variety of urological conditions including prostate cancer. Procuring this equipment will allow Urology to continue to grow and become a destination for treatment for the full spectrum of urological conditions.
