The University awarded a contract for packaging, labeling, inventory management.
Fisher Clinical Services will provide packaging, labeling, inventory management, distribution and transportation of investigational products to the two research sites in this study. Vendor will provide secondary labeling and kitting service of two investigational products used in the study. Sites will be resupplied with investigational products on demand. Direct-to-site shipments will be sent via cold-chain.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Fisher clinical service is a subsidiary of ThermoFisher Scientific, it has the resources to manage this investigative project. Due to the volume and logistics our own facilities cannot handle the investigative drug volumes required by the sponsor. UIC is the lead site of an investigator initiated study on multiple myeloma. The other research site of this 2-site study is Emory University. The principal investigator delegated the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) to manage and distribute investigational products under cold-chain in compliant with Good Clinical Practice guidelines. This single arm multi-site study is anticipated to treat 50 participants with an enrollment period of 36 months plus a treatment period of up to 36 months. IDS does not have the space, personnel, time and expertise to meet the scope of managing and distributing investigational products outside our clinic area.
