Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

The StealthStation ENT Navigation System is an ENT Electromagnetic Image Guidance system. The StealthStation ENT navigation system works by tracking instruments in real-time via an electromagnetic field and displaying this information on the monitor. It is intended as an aid for locating anatomical structures in either open or percutaneous ENT procedures.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Medtronic is the market leader in ENT. UI Health has been using Medtronic navigation and ENT products in the main Operating room (OR) for well over 15 years. Having the same platforms in the Outpatient surgery center (OSC) as the main OR will allow a seamless transition for both surgeons and staff as they are already familiar with this equipment. In addition, the use of Medtronic Navigation translates to better patient outcomes as the surgeon can more safely visualize the location while inside the patients anatomy and can avoid certain anatomical structures. This equipment will allow surgeons to safely complete many of the same types of cases in the OSC as they currently do in the main OR.
