The University awarded a contract for Specialty plasma medications.
Specialty plasma medications used for immunotherapy in both children and adults. Kimmtrak treats uveal melanoma tumor cells, while Unituxin is used for high-risk neuroblastoma in children.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This procurement is in the best interests of the University because it involves specialty plasma medications used for immunotherapy in both children and adults. These medications treat critical illnesses, such as uveal melanoma tumor cells and high-risk neuroblastoma. Without this procurement,
the Hospital would be unable to provide comprehensive and essential healthcare services to its patients.
