This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This procurement is in the best interest of the University because having the Systems covered under a Service and Support Agreement ensures continuous, reliable operation without costly interruptions. Without this agreement, the Systems would operate on a time-and-materials basis, which could lead to higher costs and significant disruptions to the surgical staff. Additionally, the agreement ensures the Systems remain up-to-date with software and receive routine and scheduled maintenance, further supporting efficient hospital operations.
