The University awarded a contract for The STERIS VHP MD140X Biodecontamination Unit.
The STERIS VHP MD140X Biodecontamination Unit utilizes advanced vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) technology to ensure thorough biodecontamination of sensitive equipment and environments. This procurement includes all required consumables for initial operation, as well as a comprehensive five-year service agreement covering maintenance, technical support, and any necessary repairs. The STERIS VHP MD140X is designed to effectively decontaminate heat-sensitive items, ensuring safety and sterility in compliance with health standards, and supporting the University's commitment to a safe, regulated work environment.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This procurement is in the Universitys best interest because adopting hydrogen peroxide sterilizers will eliminate the high costs of annual emissions testing required for ethylene oxide, as mandated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. It will also reduce the long-term health risks and environmental impacts associated with ethylene oxide use, creating a safer, more sustainable environment for University staff and essential operations. The transition to hydrogen peroxide sterilizers supports both the Universitys commitment to safety and its fiscal responsibility.
