The University awarded a contract for Organs for Transplantation.
As the leading kidney transplant program in the region, UI Health depends on close collaboration with organ procurement agencies to provide effective care for our patients. The procurement and timely delivery of donated organs are essential to our transplantation services.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This procurement is in the best interests of the University because New England Donor Services provides organs for transplantation when they are the best clinical match for UI Health patients. Ensuring access to these organs is crucial to the Transplant Program's mission of safely performing transplants and offering life-saving care. Without this procurement, patients may face delays or limited access to compatible organs, potentially impacting their health outcomes.
