The University awarded a contract for Radiopharmaceuticals.
Supply of radiopharmaceuticals, including Ga68 Dotatate injections, which are used in the diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumors. Additionally, Illuccix, a radiopharmaceutical agent, is used alongside PET scans to help detect prostate cancer in men.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If not approved, UI Health will be unable to provide essential diagnostic services using Ga68 Dotatate and Illuccix radiopharmaceuticals. Ga68 Dotatate is critical for diagnosing neuroendocrine tumors, while Illuccix is used with PET scans to detect prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positive lesions in men with prostate cancer, helping to identify metastasis, recurrence, and suitability for PSMA-directed therapy. Without access to these radiopharmaceuticals, patients will be referred to other hospitals for diagnosis and treatment, resulting in a significant loss of revenue for UIH and a disruption in the continuity of patient care.
