Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Ongoing maintenance and service of five da Vinci Surgical Robot systems. These systems support robotic or robot-assisted surgeries, enabling physicians to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, control, and flexibilityoften through minimally invasive techniques using small incisions. This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If not approved, delays in service and maintenance could result in significant additional costs for the University. Without coverage under the Service and Maintenance Agreement, the University may incur expenses exceeding $100,000 per incident to resolve issues related to the da Vinci Surgical Robot systems. These unplanned costs would negatively impact both operational budgets and the continuity of patient care.
