The University awarded a contract for Lab instruments to support research.
Procurement of laboratory instruments essential to supporting routine molecular biology wet lab research. The equipment includes centrifuges, refrigerators, an ultra-low temperature freezer, a fluorescence microscope, and various smaller laboratory items. These instruments are being acquired to equip a newly allocated laboratory space in Room 519 of the College of Dentistry. The immediate use of this equipment will directly support ongoing and future research activities within the department.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) If not approved, the University may face delays in equipping a new laboratory with the high-quality dental equipment necessary for research and student training. This could negatively impact the quality of research, limit hands-on learning opportunities for dental students, and hinder the Universitys ability to fulfill its mission of providing exceptional education and advancing scientific discovery.
