Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Procurement of 11 intraoral scanners devices used in dentistry to create digital impressions of patient's teeth and surrounding tissues. In addition, the scanners support patient care and enhance the clinical education of dental students.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If this is not approved, the financial impact to the state could include higher costs, potential delays in implementing essential technology, and reduced efficiency in both patient care and dental education. The inability to acquire these high-quality intraoral scanners may hinder the College of Dentistry's strategic shift toward digital dentistry, potentially affecting student recruitment, patient satisfaction, and long-term institutional competitiveness. Additionally, postponing or forgoing this procurement could result in increased costs later due to missed vendor discounts and the need for interim or lower-quality solutions.
