The University awarded a contract for Maintenance services for Biosense Webster system..
Repair and preventative maintenance services for the Biosense Webster (Johnson & Johnson MedTech EP) system. This includes the replacement of parts that have failed due to normal wear and tear, scheduled preventative maintenance, and on-site support provided by certified field service engineers.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If not approved, the absence of an Annual Service Agreement will significantly increase the risk of prolonged downtime in the Electrophysiology (EP) lab whenever the Carto system experiences issues. This downtime directly impacts the hospital's ability to perform ablation proceduresone of the most profitable services offered at UI Health. The EP lab conducts multiple ablations daily, placing considerable demand on the Carto system and resulting in frequent wear and tear.Without an Annual Service Agreement, the cost of maintaining and repairing the system becomes substantially higher. Many system components and cables are proprietary, with replacement costs ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. These expenses, coupled with revenue losses from procedure cancellations or delays, would result in a much higher financial burden for the State than the cost of the proposed service agreement.
