Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Procurement of membership fees to provide UICOM students and residents at the Rockford regional campus with access to gym, fitness, and wellness facilities. This service supports the health and well-being of medical students and trainees by ensuring full use of the facilities throughout the academic year.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for membership in professional, academic, research, or athletic organizations on behalf of a public institution of higher education, an employee of a public institution of higher education, or a student at a public institution of higher education. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(1)) If not approved, UIC would lose the opportunity to support student health and wellness through affordable, accessible fitness services. Students may be forced to seek higher-cost alternatives, reducing accessibility and potentially impacting retention, performance, and future health-related expenses. This would also undermine UIC Student Affairs commitment to promoting an active and healthy student body.
