Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Spiffy Entertainment LLC will produce a series of a pre-K educational TV shows geared to a SNAP-Education population about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The primary topics being nutrition, fruits and vegetables and physical activity. HH2H is a early childhood healthy lifestyle curriculum developed by UIC researchers over the last 20 years. The production company will convert this curriculum into 6 TV episodes.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This project is consistent with the USDA SNAP-Education grant and will help move the programs mission of improving the health of Chicago's children forward by creating wider and more diverse access to educational content. This also aligns with the university's mission around community engagement.
