The University awarded a contract for Disposable Supplies.
Disposable supplies for smoke evacuation, suction, irrigation, and insufflation equipment used during surgical procedures. The Airseal equipment reduces the impact on patients' bodies by operating at low intra-abdominal pressure. A proprietary access port creates a responsive, physics-based gas barrier to enable the most stable pneumoperitoneum possible. The contract also includes the purchase of surgical specimen bags.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These are necessary supplies and ancillaries for a variety of surgical procedures. This equipment also allows the operating room suite to maintain a smoke free environment as required by law.
