The University awarded a contract for a Micromedex Information System.
Micromedex provides critical drug information at point of patient care for all healthcare professionals at UI Health. Micromedex is a drug database that provides fast-track clinical decision support for healthcare providers. It is integrated with the EHR system to allow clinicians to look up and investigate therapeutic options and information required to care for patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Micromedex provides critical drug information at point of patient care for all healthcare professionals at UI Health. In circumstances when therapy options are limited, Micromedex assists providers to identify potential therapy options and references to allow researching therapies not readily known. Without this database system UI Health will not be able to provide proper therapeutic options and patients will have to be referred to other medical centers.
