Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

The University has a need to procure a cell sorter that guides researchers through the entire cell sorting process along with a biosafety cabinet. This is needed for research purposes within the University to be able to sort up to 4 populations at one time and also need to be able to sort single cells into plates for culture. Also, the equipment is necessary as it provides configuration that will allow researchers to sort based on cell phenotype as well as fluorescent protein expression of transfected cells. Furthermore, the FACSMelody allows for temperature control of samples as well as the sorted cells. Nonetheless, the FACSMelody can sort cells and compile data using software embedded into the equipment in under 20 minutes.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations.
